Drawing the Lace Pattern in Adobe Illustrator CC

Hello Everyone,

In this post, I would like to show you several examples of lace that you can draw with Adobe Illustrator brushes.

You will need several Pattern brushes similar to the lace brushes in the picture below.

Draw any pattern with the Pen tool and apply your lace brushes. In the picture below, you can see a lace collar in the Bruges technique.

If you choose the Hue Shift option for Colorization when creating a new Pattern brush, it will be very easy to change color of your lace drawing.

You can draft a full-scale pattern of any garment in Adobe Illustrator and create various lace patterns straight on garment details. Such a lace pattern can be used as a diagram for crocheting or printed on fabric with outlines of garment details.

Draft garment details with seam allowances, if you plan to print them. It is important that the lace pattern continues smoothly from the front to the back details, considering the sides and seam allowances for shoulders.

In the picture below, you can see the draft diagram for crochet in the Irish lace technique. You can unite the lace motifs with mesh or double crochet stitches.

Note: There are many methods of drawing lace patterns in Adobe Illustrator. Some lace rendering methods are described in chapter 10 of my e-textbook "The Craft of Garment Design with Adobe Illustrator". In addition, in chapters 14 and 15 you will find the detailed instructions how to create and use various fashion brushes.
